Set up your Trident OLED
Your Apex and Trident at a glance, on your desk. Setup takes about five minutes.
Have ready
- Your phone.
- Your home Wi-Fi name and password. The display uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; if your router gives its 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks separate names, use the 2.4 GHz one.
- Your Neptune Apex switched on and on the same home network: on that Wi-Fi, or on a cable to the same router (not a guest network).
- If you changed your Apex's login from the standard admin / 1234: that user name and password.
- A USB power supply and cable for the display.
Set it up
-
Plug it in
The display shows SETUP and a square code.
-
Scan the code with your phone's camera
Tap the Wi-Fi notice to join the display's own network. The setup page opens by itself; it can take up to 20 seconds.
No setup page? On your phone, join the network named PR-Trident-… with the password shown under the code, then open 192.168.4.1 in your browser.
-
Pick your Wi-Fi and type its password
Tick Show password to check it. Changed your Apex's login? Open I changed my Apex login and type it. Then tap Save & Connect.
-
Put your phone back on your home Wi-Fi
The display restarts, joins your Wi-Fi and finds your Apex by itself. Within a few minutes the home screen shows your alkalinity, calcium and magnesium.
If it shows NO WI-FI, NO APEX or APEX LOGIN instead, see If something is not right.
-
Add it to TankSensei (free during beta)
On the display, swipe down from the top, tap SETUP, then LINK. Scan the code with your phone's camera, sign in with your email (or make an account there), and pick your tank. The display shows LINKED.
Your Apex's readings then land in TankSensei by themselves, with your history on your phone. TankSensei alerts you on the Apex probes, such as temperature and pH, from about a day after linking. Trident results (alkalinity, calcium, magnesium) go into your history but do not alert yet, because the Apex does not send when each test ran. Log a reading from your own test kit to get an alkalinity or calcium alert.
Getting around
Swipe left and right
home · REAGENTS · trends · DETAILS
To start a Trident test: REAGENTS, tap RUN TEST, then pick the test.
Swipe down from the top
(or tap the small bar at the top) for SETTINGS: TARGETS, SCREEN, NETWORK, SETUP. Swipe again to go back.
Set your own ranges under SETTINGS › TARGETS; °F or °C, brightness and night dimming under SCREEN.
What the top word means
- STABLE
- Every reading is inside your target ranges.
- WATCH
- A reading is just outside its range, or the Trident has a warning (a reagent getting low, for one).
- ACTION
- A reading is well outside its range, or the Trident reports an alarm.
- TESTING...
- A Trident test is running.
- OLD DATA
- No Trident test has finished in the last 12 hours.
- NOT TESTING
- The Trident reports it cannot test; the reason shows underneath.
- NO WI-FI
- The display cannot reach your Wi-Fi. See below.
- SETUP / NO APEX
- Still looking for your Apex, or could not find it. See below.
- NO DATA
- The display knows your Apex but has no readings from it yet. Give it a minute; if it stays, see below.
- APEX LOGIN
- Your Apex turned down the login. See below.
- APEX OFFLINE
- The Apex stopped answering. Check it is on and on the same Wi-Fi.
If something is not right
NO WI-FI: WRONG PASSWORD? or NETWORK NOT FOUND
Swipe down, tap SETUP, then WI-FI and tap it again. The display shows its setup code again: do steps 2 and 3. Your ranges, history and link are kept.
Changed your mind? Unplug it and plug it back in: it goes back to the Wi-Fi it had. After a power cut, give your router a few minutes to come back first.
NO APEX, NO DATA or APEX LOGIN
Make sure the Apex is on and on the same home network as the display (not a guest network). Then, with your phone on that Wi-Fi, open the display's settings page: its address is at the bottom of SETTINGS › NETWORK (for example http://192.168.1.23).
Sign in with any name and the PIN shown at the bottom of SETUP as the password. Under APEX, type the Apex's address and the user name and password you sign in to the Apex with, then Save & Connect.
Your router's list of connected devices shows the Apex's address.
Still stuck? We'll help.
On the display: swipe down, SETUP, HELP, and scan the code. It shows what your display is reporting, what to do, and lets you write to us. No account needed.
Changing Wi-Fi? Use WI-FI, not FACTORY
FACTORY (under SETUP, tap twice) erases everything on the display: Wi-Fi, Apex, your ranges, its history and its TankSensei link.
UPDATE under SETUP checks for new display software. These steps are for display software 1.0.6 and later.
